June Mompreneur Giselle

Oh, mamas, I have tried to post this three times and it has totally disappeared…. here is our mama of the month…  Giselle!

Tell us about you and your business-to-be!

I wrote a whole collection of kids yoga stories 6 years ago when I was considering being a Kids Yoga Teacher and realized that there were limited resources integrating meaningful stories and yoga poses.  I brought together my experiences as a Primary School Teacher and certified Yoga Teacher.  Over the years, I have worked with random groups of children and read them my stories.  The response was positive!

In January of this year, I decided to self-publish the books and now have 2 storybooks and 1 coloring book on CreateSpace and Amazon.  I had found 2 different illustrators through and received feedback from 30 friends/family.  I created a website at and regularly post on Facebook.  I am loving every minute of the process!

What was your career prior to becoming a mompreneur?

My first career was as an International Primary School Teacher.  Since then I’ve been lucky to work in lots of different fields, including starting my own Corporate Yoga business in Sydney and working as a Recruiter.

My other current passion is my Small Business Coaching practice where I work with female entrepreneurs who have service-based businesses.  Through Business Planning and Strategy, I help women to think and feel differently about their businesses, in a way that is empowering and on the pathway to their success.

Why do you want start your own business?

I love the freedom, creativity, variety, challenge, and the opportunity to really make a difference.  And hopefully earn a living doing what I love!

What makes you unique and makes your business different from anyone else out there?

Six years ago, I couldn’t find anyone integrating story and kids yoga.  Now there are a few people doing similar work, but my point of difference is my teaching background and my desire to bring yoga off the mat.  So that children can experience ‘yoga’ in a yoga studio, but also in their homes or at a park.  My main goal is to integrate reading, movement, and fun to ultimately increase comprehension skills, reduce stress, and increase body awareness.

What accomplishments are you most proud of in your business so far?

I’m most proud of the fact that I brought this project alive, so that children can experience the stories on their own and with their families!  I’m proud of being a stay-at-home mom and still following my dreams.

What do you like most about being a mompreneur?

I absolutely love that while my daughter is napping I have the opportunity to get stuck into my own passion.  I love the creativity and the possibility of being able to make a difference in the lives of other children.  I love that there are other mompreneurs out there following their passions too – that I am not alone.

What advice do you have for other aspiring mompreneurs?

Pick a sleep method and stick to it!  The consistency and ritual has really worked for both my daughter and I, and has allowed me time and space to bring the business alive.  Something I could not have done if I was working full time.

Get support!  You are not alone and there is a powerful network of other mompreneurs if you need to brainstorm or ask questions.  I also have a nanny one day a week for 6 hours which is invaluable in enabling me to work with my Small Business Coaching clients and writing more books.

If someone knocked on your door, and it was during business hours… (assuming you work at home) how will they find you?  Kid on hip, overalls… pjs?

Either playing with or feeding my daughter, or on my computer if she is napping.

Do you each lunch?  Favorite food?

A rushed sandwich or salad.

What time do you finally fall into bed at night?

11 or 12pm

Oh, and also… open ended question… any insight or advice for other mamas?

Focus on sleep, breastfeeding (if possible), playing outdoors, and reading books every day.  Keep it simple!

Any challenges you’d like to mention…?

Yes I’m still exploring how to do what I love and earn a decent living…
